In 1947, after fighting and prolonged struggling against cruel Britishers India got freedom. Many fighters sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the India, not only from the colonial rule but also to set free Indians from the handcuffs of social orthodox. No offense to say that, India’s pace towards the development in the field of science and technology is very fast. But is it really true that India is developing?
This article is to throw light on the booming topic of society being misogynistic. It seems India has gained independence but still there are people trapped in archaic traditional beliefs. People say their daughters are equal to boys. But if it is true then why the system of female foeticides are still prevalent in India? There are thousands of police-stations & facilities to the complaint against the act of dowries but still, dowries are not only taken but dowries are also given, why? Cases of domestic violence are still heard in news, why?
If people are advancing and if they are really adapting the western culture then these cases should have been stopped till now. If we talk about census then nearly 10 million female fetuses have been aborted in the country over the past two decades. In India, Delhi, the statistics state that for 821 girls against 1000 boys in 2001 which has now increased to 866 in 2011.But, Haryana has the lowest sex ratio.
If we compare the literacy rate of female against male then according to the census of 2011 it is clear that in Bihar where females literacy rate is mere 53.33% there literacy rate of male is 73.39%, which is least among all the states. On taking Kerala into account which has the highest literacy rate, it is seen, there also female literacy rate is 91.98% whereas male literacy rate is 96.02% which is more than that of women.
Dowry:- In my personal opinion act of dowry is the root of all misogynistic beliefs in the society. I cannot understand society completely but I think if Dowry is stopped being taken and given then, maybe, mothers will stop killing daughters in their womb.I can not understand why a girl is assumed to be unable to earn her livelihood? There are also no answers for the questions like why a girl cannot receive higher education?
